Alessio Valenza is currently the International Technical Manager for Ruminant Reproduction at Ceva Sante Animale. He was born and raised on a family dairy farm in a small town in the north of Italy (Mantova). After receiving a degree in Doctor Veterinary Medicine from the University of Parma (Italy), Alessio went on to complete a M.S. degree in Animal Health. Then he started at the University of Turin his Ph.D in Dairy Cattle Reproduction. Most of the research projects were conducted at the University of Madison-Wisconsin, Animal Science department. With the collaboration of Prof. Paul Fricke and his lab, Alessio investigated new technologies in order to improve fertility in high production dairy cattle through development of an accelerometer system for detection of estrus and synchronization of ovulation protocols. Specifically, he studied the physiology of estrus around the time of ovulation. The primary aim of his research was to elucidate the difference in conception rate between AI followed by heat detection and conception rate after TAI with synchronization programs.
